Welcoming our newest member, Marie-Ange!

Marie-Ange has just joined DRIAD as an Innovation consultant! After completing her PhD at the Blizard Institute of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in December 2018, Marie-Ange has now joined us in Leeds..

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a 26-year-old British female with roots in francophone and anglophone African countries (Cote-d'Ivoire and Ghana). Growing up, I aspired to develop treatments to cure diseases. This is why I spent a good part of my life training as a scientist (specialising in Pharmacology, the study of the action of drugs). This involved learning about the human body and the effects of almost anything on its complex systems and biochemical processes. My experience in science began at the University of Surrey where I studied Pharmacology. I also spent a year undertaking research in a laboratory at the Australian School of Advanced Medicine (In sunny Sydney). My curious mind led me to then undertake my PhD at QMUL working on a model of nausea in human stomach to identify potential anti-nausea drugs. Besides loving science, I am a driven individual who loves to laugh, loves live music and meeting new people.

What are your interests in innovation and technology?

I've always wanted to apply my knowledge to meet the changing needs and lifestyle of people everywhere. In my opinion, this is exactly what most startups strive to do: improving current methods to enable people to do things in new and exciting ways! I also have several business projects in mind that I aim to develop in the future.

What's your speciality?

I've had experience working as a scientist in disease areas including metabolic syndrome (obesity, high blood pressure & diabetes), chronic kidney disease and diseases that affect the digestive system. A huge part of being a scientist includes writing articles and summarising data and complex information — I love writing, proofreading and enjoy engaging with people in workshops or presentations.

Anything you want to add?

I am excited for what the future holds in this great team at DRIAD and look forward to working with different business ventures!
