Funding opportunity: Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Phase 2

Tic toc tic toc... Exactly two months before the next deadline of Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Phase 2. If you are considering it, now is the time to start!

The grant

As part of the Horizon 2020 programme, the SME Instrument Phase 2 is an opportunity for innovative SMEs to get up to €2.5 M.

This call will close on 9th of January 2019, 17:00 pm Brussels time.

To apply for this grant, you need to qualify as an innovative SME. This means your for-profit organisation must have:

  • less than 250 employees.

  • an annual turnover of no more than €50 M and/or an annual balance sheet of no more than €43 M.

Phase II grants are aimed for SMEs ready to bring their innovation from the laboratory to the market: your innovation needs to be at TRL6.

Note that this funding instrument is highly competitive: only the most innovative and ground-breaking projects are selected. Over the first three years of the competition, the overall success rate was 4.6%.

The core of the application is 30-pages long. Its assessment includes the company's "financial capacity" and "operational capacity".

The application is split into three:

  1. Excellence: present your innovation in regards to the market opportunity identified.

  2. Impact: explain your market penetration strategy, business model and financial forecast.

  3. Implementation: present your project management strategy, including your team, resources and risk analysis.

The European Commission has issued a manual to guide you through the application for the SME instrument.

Getting the grant

Once again, the SME instrument grant is highly competitive. It will only fund the development of very disruptive technologies. Your project will consequently need to have a large potential market and a clear social or environmental positive impact. Yet, of course, technology isn't everything; writing an impactful application is the only way to convince the reviewing panel that you deserve this funding.

This is where we step in: working with us doubles your chances of getting the funding and dramatically increases your ROI.

So don't waste your time and money, get in touch!
